More than 70 companies, association and trade groups involved in developing renewable energy projects took part in a weekend workshop sponsored by the Energy Affairs Administration to discuss the benefits attainable through the government’s Green Energy Fund.
A U.S. tax break has helped wind power stem the growth of natural gas as a power-plant fuel in blustery states. The natural-gas share of electricity generation increased by less than 1 percent over the past decade in states such as North Dakota that have strong winds to drive turbines, a Bloomberg Government Study found. It grew 17 percent in states such as Florida, where there was no wind to compete with gas.
The Environmental Protection Agency said that it aims to get at least 10 percent of the Puerto Rican hospitality and tourism sector to go green within a year.
Puerto Rico has adopted a Renewable Portfolio Standard, seeking to generate 15% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
In order to promote and facilitate the development of renewable energy sources in Puerto Rico, the Government of Puerto Rico is establishing and implementing a series of new policies that will create the necessary legal framework to spearhead said development.
